Welcome to the ASIS International - Phoenix Chapter website!
in 1958, our chapter has been active in the Valley of the Sun for over 50 years. There is no better place to find the
tools and contacts you will need to become an expert in the security profession. In addition to the traditional ASIS
activities and programs, the Phoenix Chapter is very active in the community with our charitable work.
We have a incredible
membership base but our goal is to continue to add more leaders in the security industry to our chapter. Come
on in and see the many benefits our chapter offers.
ASIS International is the preeminent
organization for security professionals. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity
of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as
the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics.
By providing members and the security community with access to a full range of programs and services, and by publishing
the industry's No. 1 magazine—Security Management—ASIS leads the way for advanced and improved security performance.
ASIS administers three internationally accredited certification programs. The Certified Protection Professional (CPP) indicates board certification in security
management, and is widely recognized as the highest designation accorded a security practitioner. Two additional specialty
certifications are available: the Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) and the Physical Security Professional (PSP).

2015 – A Year of Opportunity
is with honor that I begin my term as your 2015 Chapter Chair. At our Board retreat in December we asked
ourselves the question “How are we doing?”It became clear that we could not accurately grade
ourselves without first answering that same question as it refers to the Chapter as a whole. The Board
can provide education, activities, and other benefits but we cannot consider ourselves successful if the members do not value
what we provide.Just because something is tradition doesn’t mean we have to continue doing it the
same way if there is a better way to do it.Hence was born my motto for the Board in 2015 – “Listen
to the members - Be open to change – Take action”.The end goal is to provide everything we
can to advance the careers of our members. For us to listen to you, we need you to talk to us.Tell us what we are doing well, and tell us what you need that we are not giving you. This is the
first step to answering the question “How are we doing?”
We also have opportunities for members to get
involved by serving on Committees. From personal experience this is the best way to network and fully understand
what the Chapter does.I would attend the monthly luncheons, listen to the speakers, talk to a few other
members, then leave and forget about the Chapter until the next month. That all changed when one day I
received a call from Chapter Chair Gary Lightfoot asking if I would like to take part in the Law Enforcement Appreciation
Luncheon Committee.I waffled at first but then said I would volunteer. That was the
beginning of really understanding what ASIS is and what it does for me as a security professional.Instead
of having a friendly chat with people at my table each month at the meetings I began to build meaningful professional relationships.Look over the roster of committees posted in this newsletter and let me know which one you would like to get involved
with.We never turn away volunteers!Speaking of committees, we have a need to fill
the Chair of the Programs Committee. After a very successful line-up of speakers at our meetings in 2014,
Don Hesselbrock CPP has decided to step aside and provide this opportunity to another member.Don has left
some big shoes to fill but I know that he is committed to the Chapter and will provide any mentoring and advice that the new
Chair might require.
Be sure to look for information in future newsletters and emails regarding other
events and benefits from being an ASIS Phoenix Chapter member.
Together we will make 2015 the year of opportunity.
