While parts of the country are digging out of the latest winter blast, we here in Arizona are gearing up for the influx of winter visitors enjoying the mild weather and Spring Training Baseball.
Our March Meeting will bring another interesting speaker presenting on a topic relevant to our Security and Law Enforcement professionals. Steve Tuttle from TASER will speak on the topic “Are Body-Cameras the Next Paradigm Shift for Security?” Make sure you join us Wednesday March 18 for this meeting. Our Vice Chairman Jordan Cote CPP will be greeting you and conducting the meeting.
There are several exciting training opportunities to make you aware of. The first of which is “Security Practices in a High Rise Environment”. This is a 2 day seminar being brought to the Phoenix area on May 4 and 5 by ASIS International. This seminar is worth up to 13 CPE credits. What makes this training opportunity even more exciting is that ASIS International is offering our Phoenix Chapter one free attendance to this event (an $825 value)! How can you be the lucky one to attend this training for free? Our Chapter will award the registration at the April Monthly Luncheon by a drawing. The criteria for being eligible for the drawing are simple:
(1) You must be a current ASIS Phoenix Chapter member (dues for 2015 are paid),
(2) you must attend the training (i.e. you cannot give it to another person)
(3) you must earn entries for the drawing by one of the methods below.
Each member has the opportunity to earn multiple entries into the drawing as follows:
For more information on this training event see the ASIS website: https://www.asisonline.org/Education-Events/Education-Programs/Classroom/Pages/Security-Practices-In-a-High-Rise-Environment.aspx
Our Eagle Committee at ERU has also been busy coordinating opportunities for our Chapter members. The College of Security and Intelligence at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, has extended an invitation to participate in the Fourth Annual Global Security and Intelligence Studies Career Fair. There is no cost to participate, and the career fair provides an excellent opportunity to network with security and intelligence students as well as industry professionals. The fair will be held on the Prescott AZ campus March 26th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00p.m. If you attend please take the time to say hello to our student Chapter members at NAU.
The Women In Security Committee will offer its first quarterly event of 2015 on March 24th. This will be a teleconference on mentoring led by MaryLynn Mack. For questions please contact Maria Dominguez CPP.
If you have not visited our Chapter website recently you owe it to yourself to check out at www.asisphoenix.org. Our webmaster John Hamilton has been working hard to make improvements and give you the most up to date information. Did you know you can register (and pay) for our monthly meetings and events like the Southwest Security Conference right from the website? Take a look and let John know your feedback.
As you can tell from this lengthy article, your Chapter Officers, Committee Chairs, and members have been diligently working to provide all of our members with the finest benefits to retain our status as the premier security organization.
Even more exciting things are being developed for 2015 and I will be eager to provide you with information on those as they evolve. Watch your email, read the newsletters, and keep checking the website.
