About the Program:

Crimes against retail business continue to be significant in spite of advances in surveillance technology. Security managers need to look beyond technology-to take a more strategic approach to retail crime prevention. One successful approach to making it harder to commit crimes and to reducing the rewards of crime is "situational crime prevention. Learn how to:

  • Reduce employee theft.
  • Analyze crime vulnerabilities.
  • Reduce shoplifting.

Presented by:

Professor Adam Graycar, Dean, School of Criminal Justice Rutgers University

Professor Marcus Felson, School of Criminal Justice Rutgers University

Before taking his present position, Dr. Graycar was director of the Australian Institute of Criminology, a federal government policy and research agency. In that post he led work on crime prevention and crimes against business. Dr. Graycar has a Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales in Australia

Professor Felson founded the "routine activity approach" to crime prevention, is author of Crime and Everyday Life, and is co-editor of Business and Crime Prevention as well as Crime and Real Estate Development. He has lectured in twenty nations. Professor Felson has a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
