Richard
Tamayo Awarded Security Officer of the Year
December 18, 2009 - Jordan Cote, CPP, Private
Security Liaison Committee Chair announced that Richard Tamayo, G4S Wackenhut Security Custom Protection Officer, was the
winner of the 2009 Security Officer of the Year Award. Cote gave some background about the award requirements that are considered
by the Chapter Board, and then read the letter submitted by Larry Pablo, G4S Wackenhut Security General Manager, to recommend
him. The announcement was met by a standing ovation.
Pablo’s letter reported that Officer Tamayo risked his personal safety
and went to the aid of two police officers who were physically struggling with a male suspect whom they were attempting to
arrest on the tracks of the Light-Rail commuter train. While assisting the police officers during the arrest, Tamayo was assaulted
by the suspect by being kicked and struck several times in the chest and face. Both police officers credited Tamayo
for his courage and willingness to assist them in gaining control over an extremely violent suspect in a dangerous location.
Officer Tamayo addressed the Chapter and gave credit for his actions to Jesus Christ and his personal faith. He
then thanked the Chapter for the selection and recognition in awarding him the 2009 Security Officer of the Year Award.
